Biyahe Blues sa Mahal kong Maynila

Maaga akong nagising(madaling araw), sa 'di-maipaliwanag na dahilan; at medyo tinamad pa akong pumasok... But eventually, nagawa ko namang pasukan ang ESTRUD1 class namin. Nag-lecture lang kami magdamag.

Pagkatapos ng klase, sumama ako sa mga kagrupo ko sa EPRECON, at nag-food trip kami sa may Ever. Hayun, nag-sizzling kami, at heto ang in-order ko...

Dimating din si Jamie doon, at naisauli na niya si Lispol, at agad din siyang umalis. Tapos bumiyahe na ako apuntang Paco, dumalaw kila Sir Jobet (a.k.a. BAMF), and acquired some Gen 2 scalarizers.

Then dumaan ako sandali sa Raon (to buy a few switches), at agad na rin akong umuwi ng Shelterville.

So-so gig sa Freedom Bar...

Around 6pm na ako bumiyahe papuntang Freedom Bar, para sa third gig ng Nenerminator sa 1st anniv event ng Chupachupsyo Productions. Past 8pm na ako nakarating, at hindi pa nagsisimula ang gig; nadatnan ko agad doon si [info]rezarius, na alas siyete pa pala dumating.

Then ininform kami ni [info]coincibens na male-late siya ng dating (around 9pm). nagpa-lineup kaming pangatlong band sa list (and noticed na walang may gustong maging first band, kaya hindi makapagsimula agad ang tugtugan). Tapos nag-brownout pa sa Anonas, which caused the further delay of the event. buti na lang bumalik din agad ang kuryente.

Dumating si [info]coincibens bago mag-alas diyes. Nagawa naming makausap (at mapanood) ang mga kapwa-JRock bands nung gabing yun. Labas-masok kami ng bar though, dahil nainitan kami sa weather, at hindi namin nagawang mapanood ng mabuti yung mga banda, pati na rin ang Pedicab. (BTW, oks na oks ang tunog nila! Kaso nahiya akong magpakuha ng litrato, ampf...)

Before 12 midnight na kami nakatugtog -- naging maganda naman ang performance namin (okey sa olrayt ang timpla), pero hindi namin nagustuhan ang overall experience...

Umuwi na agad si [info]rezarius pagakatapos ng tugtog namin; hinatak naman kami ni lj user="coincibens"> nila Ann Punk, at sumama sa kanila sa panonood ng gig ng The Chongkeys sa kalapit na 9 Mile bar (along Kalayaan Ave. lang).

Tinapos namin ang event, at nag-enjoy kaming lahat. Maganda ang ambience, music at ang atmosphere ng crowd. Chikahan blues pa among folks after ng tugtugan, bago kami nagdesisyong magsiuwian.

Pasado alas-kuwatro na ako nakauwi ng bahay, latang-lata sa pagod at puyat.

First thing in the morning: instead na dumerecho agad ng school, bumiyahe ako mula bahay hanggang sa Paco -- sa place nila Sir Jobet (a.k.a. BAMF). Bitbit ko ang HM100 ko (na pinatanggal ko ang scalarizer -- just my preference), my Zoom G2.1u, and a spare scalarizer.

Kagigising lang nun ni Sir Jobet, and agad na rin niya kinalikot ang G2.1u; sandali lang sana 'yung operation (since scalarization lang); pero medyo nagtagal, dahil nilagyan ng plastic resin para maging firm yung nabaling fiber glass (kaya hindi mapindot 'yung tact switches sa loob), which took a few hours. (Nakinood pa ako tuloy ng cable TV, and pinakain pa nila ako ng lunch there. Big thanks din doon sir.)

Later on, may isa pang PhilMusic forumite na bumisita, dala dala naman niya ang kanyang Zoom G1X. Then nung natuyo na ang resin, hayun, kinabitan na ng Gen2 organicore scalarizer ang G2.1u na kawawa... (Supposedly metalcore sana, dahil 'yun ang nilagay ni Sir Jober sa G1 naman niya.) Yep, GEN2 siya -- much much improved batches ng scalarizer.

So nung tinesting ko na (no other effects and equalization, just the dirt patch): FOTAH naging warm na ang tunog ng distortion models! Yung Marshall and Mesa Boogie simulations, lumagkit ang tunog. And my biggest surprise e 'yung Peavey 5150 simulation. Dati, parang tunog carboard na ningangatngat (KAGG KAGG) na 'di ko talaga masikmura; ngayon, nagkaroon na ng twang! Even the modulation effects, mas naging lush and 3D-sounding.

Then the fellow forumite also requested an organicore scalarizer for his G1X. Nagustuhan din niya ang naging improvement ng tone. I also had the chance to try the effect for the 1st time; w00t, parang 606 pala ang interface niya... (Pero parang bitin talaga ang features niya compared sa G2.1u; mas kaunti pala ang range ng parameters.).

Pati si Sir Jobet 'di na mapakali, at pinalitan niya ang scalarizer ng G2 niya with the organicore. So hayun tatlo na kaming na-hook muli sa ZOOM effects namin!

One thing na na-notice namin: naging warm nga (much more analog-sounding); medyo nabawas naman sa high ends. (Maybe dahil complementing ang trebles sa digital processing?) So here's my tidbit: pwedeng bawiin 'yung high end loss sa EQ settings (taasan ang treble) at sa Harmonics parameter ng EXTRA EQ (functions like the Boss EH-2 Enhancer, pramis). Maybe applicable din ito sa mahahabang signal chains na malaki ang tone suck (also dala na rin ng super long instrument cables).

Now ang challenge ko na lang is, sa next band practice hindi ako magdadala ng kahit anong analog pedals; 'yung Zoom G2.1u lang! Bu ha ha ha...

WINDSday.

Had our last quiz for EHIGSUR during the fieldwork meeting; at dahil nag-focus ako masyado sa pagggawa ng ESTHEO1 project, hindi ako nakapag-review gaano... Pero may nasagutan naman ako, pero tiyak maraming mali. :( After that quiz, dumaan muna ako kila ate para mag-lunch, then dumerecho na ako ng library, at magdamag kong pinagpatuloy ang projects the whole breaktime.

Then nung ESTHEL1 class, nag-ordinary lecture lang kami (pahabol na topic: Influence Line); and in-announce sa amin ne extended 'yung project submission up to Monday, so nagbunyi kaming lahat! XD After school, dali-dali na rin akong umuwi, at nakapagpahinga ng maluwag. Whew!

TEARSday.

'Di ko nagawang pumasok ng EHIGSUR class nung umaga, dahil pilit kong tinapos ang final written report (project proposal) para sa EHYDROL. Talagang minabuti kong tapusin 'yon, para naman magkaroon ng tsansang ma-exempt doon sa final exams... :D

Past 12 noon na ako nakarating ng school, and agad nagpa-ringbind ng assignment compilations (for EHYDROL din); and nakasalubong ko rin ang ilang kaklase ko, na naghahabol din ng requirements. After makapagpasa ng lahat-lahat, agad kong pinuntahan ang mga kaklase sa EINPHIL; and as usual, absent na naman ang prof namin~ (Supposedly, final exams na namin, pero ayun, mauusog next week...)

Then nag-practical exam kami (at tumambay ng matagal) sa final ESMECHL lab class namin. Parang evaluation lang ang naging tanong, kaya hinabaan ko ang mga sagot, parang reaction paper na tuloy, heheh... Saktong 9pm kami pinalabas, boo-hoo...

After school, napadaan ako sa PIMP Hive, para i-claim asi Lispol; and hayun nilagyan na siya ng contact scalarizer. (At dahil kinakalawang ang strings at grounded pa ang wirings niya, sa bahay ko pa mate-testing ang tunog niya.) Nagkaroon din ako ng tsansang marinig ang "Mosfet" mod ni Sir Jobet (a.k.a. BAMF) sa mga dirt pedals niya, especially sa BAKEMONO DS-1. Tapos naabutan kong nagja-jamming sa mga guitar backing tracks ang iba pang PIMP peeps doon, heheh...

Then bumiyahe na ako pa-Nova, at nagawa ko pang mag-grocery ng kaunti bago umuwi ng Shelter. Whew, nakakapagod na araw!

Pumasok for my EBCONST class, at sinubmit ang 'di ko natapos na paperwork na National Building Code (in Eng'g lettering shit)... ours ago, nagsulat ako ng pagkadami-dami (as in)! kaya kumirot ang kanang wrist ko. (FYI: until now may kaunting kirot pa rin, hence di ako makapagpost ng matinong updates sa blog........) Feeling ko may sintomas na ako ng Carpal Tunnel Shit. Shit talaga.

Then bangenge mode sa rentahan ng PC at nag-check ng kung anu-ano para maaliw ang sarili.. Then pagbalik sa school for my EHYDRAU class, pero wala pala ang prof namin. Wenk.

So agad na akong umuwi dahil sa sobrang pagkabangag. WTF day.

Hindi ko pinasukan ang ESTREMA class ko, dahil simply tinamad ako. :P Nag-practice (crammed) lang ng paggigitara sa bahay, before our Do'ahou practice later ng hapon. Dumating ako ng 6pm (instead of 5) dahil minalas na makaasakay sa takaw-pasaherong jeepney driver (na masarap sapakin), plus heavy traffic pa sa bandang Tandang Sora. ~___~!

Medyo naging ayos naman ang practice, pero medyo may hiss si Cliff, tapos hindi pa ganung maganda ang timpla ko, dahil 'yung DF-2 lang ang dinala ko...

Then after practice, nakipagkita ako with Rainey sa Road 20, then I decided na i-treat ko siya, at nag-food trip kami sa may C-5 (refer to my previous post, heheh...) Solbaks kami sa beef mami! Then hinatid ko siya pauwi ng dorm niya. And nakauwi naman ng bahay ng 12 midnight...

Wednesday, 10-03-2007

Maagang umalis ng bahay, dahil dumaan pa ng munisipyo ng North Caloocan first thing in the morning. Then did some drafting projects sa EBCONSL, na tipong architecture shit... Obviously, nananakit pa yung kamay ko as in, at nanginginig ang mga linya ko. Then around 2:30pm nag-break na kami, dahil may fire drill minutes later, at magsisilabasan ang libu-libong tao. So kumain ako sa labas, tapos did some minor transaction (naibenta ko sa labas yung defective cellphone ko), saka ako bumalik.

Afterwards, nag-laboratory class kami ng EHYDRLA until 7pm -- made up a lot of experiments with another classmate na um-absent (buti talaga mabait si sir...) Afterwards, dumerecho ako ng PIMP Hive, pero hindi pa rin tapos yung pinapa-mod ko... So agad na akong umuwi, around 11pm ako nakarating ng bahay.

Medyo na-late ng gising, pero nakarating naman sa EBCONST class for our quiz... Buti kanina, naitanong ko sa EHYDRAU classmate ko (na estudyante sa ibang section ng EBCONST class, na nag-quiz earlier nung umaga), at nakakuha ng ibang tips... Found the quiz a bit tricky; nakasagot naman ng marami, lalo na yung 10-point bonus question, weee!

After class, I treated myself with a Tropical Hut meal sa bagong FEU Canteen sa Technology Building.

Pinaliguan ko ng lupia sauce yung kanin, added with hot sauce, para maglasang Java rice, heheh.

(Slight trivia: Maaari kang pumasok sa FEU-East Asia ng walang I.D. -- dumaan ka lang dito sa FEU canteen, sabay sa annex ka mapapadpad... Medyo mahabang lakaran lang~)

Tinapos ko din 'yung mga chinu-chorva kong laboratory reports before our EHYDRAU class. Then sa klase namin, just had a normal lecture... Am not sure kung may quiz na kami next meeting.

Then dumerecho na ako ng PIMP Hive, para i-check ulit ang pinapa-mod kong HM100... Naabutan kong may na-conceive na pedal si BAMF -- ang Scalar Boost... Tapos nag-iinuman ang mga peeps...

Maya-maya, nagsi-datingan pa ang iba pang PhilMusic peeps (na familiar sa forums) -- sina chito_eoi, kawayan_strat (at may dalang DIY na chorus pedal!), KitC, tapos yung mga kabanda ni moHawK sa Sigh Band na si Caren (frontwoman -- vox + guit) with her Ibanez (!), Evette (bass) and Paolo (keybs). Naging BIGLAANG E.B. ang nangyari. The best part: dumagdag na ang beer at pulutan hahaha!!!

Di ako muna sumama sa mga folks na nagkukwentuhan sa labas ng Hive -- nakipag-chikahan muna ako kay BAMF and about the scalarizers... Learned a lot. Hell, really a LOT!.... (napa-nganga ako sa gulat).

Then naghain na sila ng Emperaning (doon na ako na-doomed!) after a few shots, naka-chikahan ko pa ang ibang forumites, labas-masok ako, then napanood ko pa ang Sigh Band nagpa-practice...

Tapos nag-brownout ng sandali, and lumabas ako ng Hive -- that time, mainit na ang dibdib ko (gumuguhit yung brandy), tapos sinabayan pa ng malamig na simoy ng hangin.

In no time, bumulagta ako. Sabay, "GWAARRRKKK!!!!" Yun na! Bangenge ako nung gabing yun! Knockout.

Aroubnd 6am ako nagising sa loob ng PIMP Hive, nakahandusay Sa kutson -- kasama kong natulog 'yung trabahador ni BAMF. Then he tld me na tinapos na ni BAMF yung HM100 mod ko.

So I tested it, pero nadiskubre naming sumisipol yung pedal -- which means na may contacts doon sa circuit. So iniwan ko 'yung pedal, para ma-diagnoze. Then umuwi na ako agad -- beforehand, nag-kape ako bago sumakay ng Proj.8 pa-Munoz (dahil baligtad ang sikmura ko!), and nakauwi naman ng bahay ng 10am.

Again, tinamad pumasok sa school for that lone ESTREMA class, dahil wala sa mood (as in)... Just practiced and nag-timpla ng effects, this time sinama ko yung G2.1u ko; and brought my Totbox for hard test ng studio usage.

Nakarating naman ng Gig Studio on time -- medyo nairapang mag-setup, dahil sumobra ang talas ng tunog; plus ayaw gumana ng matino yung PSM-5 ko (as an A/B output); tapos mahirap din i-setup si Totbox. Anyways, nagkasya na lang ako sa DF-2 and G2.1u, and lagi pang nawawala sa tono si Syntyche (kinakalawang na kasi ang kwerdas niya)... Anyways, productive naman ang practice.

Afterwards, dumerecho na ako sa 7-11 sa tabi ng Ramon Magsaysay High School, dahil naghihintay sa akin doon si Rainey. Then food trip ulit kami sa Tri Mo Shawarma Co! :D Mwahahaha, sarap talaga ng buhay!

Muling pagbisita sa PIMP Hive~

Tuesday. Panay kalikot mode lang ako buong umaga; then I posted sa isang thread sa PhilMusic, telling pedal mod master BAMF na balak kong dumaan sa place nila. Tinamad din akong magpunta ng school, dahil busy nga ako sa bahay. Around 3pm na akong umalis. Tapos nag-food trip kaunti sa Susano... (Check previous entry.)

Dumaan muna ng Quiapo, to buy some stuffs sa Quiapo -- I discovered then na lumipat na pala 'yung shop na pinagbibilhan ko ng LED's~ (nasa Divisoria na daw sila. T___T) Then afterwards, naisip kong dumaan na sa PIMP (medyo nag-dalawang isip pa nga ako...)

Pagdating doon, muli kong nakita ang mga familiar forumites, and agad kong tinesting ang fully-evolved HM100 doon; plus I had the chance to test much more pedals na nakatambak doon...

Ayun, I decided na ipa-mod ko na ang dinala kong HM100 (na dinala ko). Actually, dala ko rin 'yung BAKEMONOed DS-1; at dahil sa nabasa ko sa forums about 'shunt-scalarization' sa pedals, pina-ganon ko siya, with an organicore scalarizer. Ang resulta: DAKEL TI TONO! Sabi nga ni BAMF, parang "Cabinet-in-a-Box" na sa laki ng tunog! Lahat kami nagulat eh. Now it's an ORGANIC-BAKEMONO mod! :D

Lastly, I asked him an offer -- kung maaari kong i-trade 'yung XT-2 ko for another pedal of his -- eventually napapayag ko, dahil I sent him the schematics pagkauwi ko... At yun nga, around 12 midnight na akong nakauwi, kaka-test drive ng mga pedals! Sarap eh!

Wednesday. After magbisi-bisihan (ulit) sa bahay, dumerecho na uli ako ng PIMP -- dala-dala ko na 'yung XT-2 ko, and my Arion SDI-1 (for another modification); 'shunt-scalarization' ulit, this time with a metalcore scalarizer, for the mid punch twang... Ang resulta: Strat-twang-in-a-box na siya! Bale gamit ko 'yung RJ Telecaster copy niya, and nagtunog-Strat!! Better than that previous 'vintage ngongo' bite... Now, it's a METAL-BASS-SUSHI mod! :D

Oh, nandiyan sa pic 'yung newly-acquired pedal, na relic na ang itsura -- the BOSS DF-2 SUPER Feedbacker & Distortion. Basically, similar daw sia sa DS-1, pero may dagdag na 'overtone' feature (na tunog-"helicopter", maybe nauso daw nung 70's)... Modded na rin siya, pero BAMF suited it for punk purposes, kaya may harshness pa siya. Pero I checked the innards -- may scalarizer doon (dunno kung series, or shunt...) Basta, balak ko pa siyang ipa-mod... And papalitan ko rin ang scratchy pots niya.

Then pinakain pa ako ni BAMF ng super anghang na soup (w00t, thanks sa treat)~! And late ulit akong nakaalis ng PIMP hive~ (around 11pm!) Antok na akong nakauwi ng 1am ng madaling araw, sobrang naaliw ulit sa mga pedal... XD XD XD

Thursday. Heto ang day na hinintay ko si BAMF sa PIMP Hive, pero hindi siya nakarating (or umalis ako agad?) Bale dumaan ako agad doon arounmd 5pm, pero wala pa daw siya; so naisipan kong dumaan sa Frisco, may binili kaunti sa isang shop doon, then nag-food trip sa palengke. Pagbalik, naghintay ako until 8pm, pero hindi nga siya dumating. Dala ko pa naman 'yung DF-2 chaka yung G2.1u ko, for guinea-pig testing. :p Ayun, napauwi na lang ako ng di-oras.

Yeeey, enrolled na naman ako!

Friday. Decided na umalis ng umaga, at inasikaso ko na 'yung enrollment ko! (NGAR! ) Napadaan munang SM Fairview, for a short food trip... (Check previous entry ulit.) Dahil late enrollee ako, derecho ako agad sa CE (Civil Eng'g) Department at doon ako nagpa-enlist ng subjects; beforehand, I looked up for my grades sa Registrar -- damn, sumablay pa ako sa isa; tapos incomplete 'yung 2 subjects. T___T

So ayun, bale 10 units lang ako ngayon, dahil sa budget constraints, and offered subjects. Mabilis kong nakuha ang assessment, and sinubukan kong asikasuhin agad 'yung 2 incomplete grades, na pawang MPS (Mathematics & Physical Sciences) Department...Then nalaman kong nag-resign pala 'yung prof namin sa EBAMENG! Buti na lang at sa secretary ng MPS lang pala ang lalapitan for those matters; pero sa huli, she asked for my finals permit nung previous trimester; so ayun, sa pagpasok sa school ko na maaayus ang grades ko, na pawang pasado naman, yehey!

Mabilis din akong nakabayad, dahil sakto lang sa available kong money na dala ko. Then mingled onti sa labas (chat with Nash) bago umalis. Then dumaan ako sa place ng Ate ko, for some matters (ulit). whew, enrolled na ako sa wakas...

Sunday. Dumaan ako kila Jun, for that post-birthday-ng-utol-niya na pagbisita ko -- ayun, bangag ang daddy; paano, magdamag pala silang nag-videoke nila nina Tan and Luciel doon!

(FYI: Supposedly, kumpletong Rtschrck cast sana ang pupunta sa party nung Saturday night, pero 'di pwede si [info]einehell as expected, at naiwan ako sa bahay at hindi makaalis.)

Pinakain nila ako ng natirang handa from previous night -- some spaghetti, manok at pancit... Then afterwards, sinagad na namin ni Jun ang pagvi-videoke, at hinandaan pa ako ng 1 bote ng beer ('yung natira din). Birit hits kami maghapon! Wenk, umulan pa ng malakas dahil sa pagkanta ko ng Always Somewhere... At hanggang ngayon namamaos ang boses ko, dahil ba naman sa mataas na backup voice doon sa Alone. Wahahaha...

Sunday Blues: Rtschrck Practice

Left home past noon for Rtschrck practice at Gig Studio -- arrived a bit late, but Luciel was the last one to check in. Beforehand, I met with [info]habster for some minor transactions (Arion SMM-1 related) -- thanks so much dude!

Used my XT-2 + Metal-BAKEMONOed DS-1 setup; and so far, I got that chug tone that I wanted! Sounded much near to a hot tube amp... That made me energetic during practice, and noticed we were much 'cleaner' this time around. Yosh!

After practice, we decided to hang out downstairs, then Luciel treated us with free canned beer (kaka-birthday lang niya kasi); I treated them a free pizza as well. then due to heavy rains, we opted to stay there and ate more food~ (hahah!)

Then me and Tan traveled back to Fairwiew area, toured around SM Megamall and Robinson's Place, then went home around 8pm. And all-night all I did was internet-surfing, and DIY-ing! (Read more below.) Good heavens, no classes today...

Just made a minor DIY project! (Hahah!)

A week ago, I've thought of doing something out of my old Vantage micro apmlifier: turn it into a DIY talkbox! As I've estimated, it's quite an easy thing to do -- you can also build one using your old PC speakers. Too bad, that micro amp became the guinea pig of my evil plans, haha...

So I initially bought some materials needed during my trip to SM Fairview days ago... I bought some ½" diameter brass hose nozzle and vinyl tube (of same diameter, of course). Then for days I was searching for a good container for it -- until I found a Tupperware box (which hosted my old, old floppy disks). Finally I started the project last night; I took out the parts of the micro amp, punched some holes, some minor soldering... I slept around 2am (I really had a hard time to catch some sleep, poor me...), then finished this off awhile ago. So there you have it...

I changed the DC input into that mono baby jack one (far right of the pic, barely noticable, sorry...), for easier hole-punching of the Tupperware. And check out the innards of this thingie... (Click the pic to check the parts labelled~)

In addition, I put an organic scalarizer, just to test some minor tonal difference -- which I found out, some harshness got lost, and evened output...

My set-up as follows:

Tupperware Talkbox + HYPER Fuzz setup

Cascaded it with my FZ-2 -- ran it with that cranked GAIN BOOST, for more of that driven tone out of my micro amp dirt sound~ (I really liked the harmonics!)

Tube + Mic setup

Speaking of vinyl tube, it was sticked beside my generic PC microphones -- recorded as near as possible to it, because of the mic's "weak field"... (Notice the slight breathing/lip noises, and some volume gaps in the sound clip.)

Some flaws of the prototype: I could only make wah-like sounds majority; I could barely make any word-like speech sounds from it (but notice the sound clip -- I uttered "universal", but quite hard to understand); and the level seems to be weak -- maybe I wasn't able to make the box completely soundproof, thus the box itself has some escaping noises from it. Plus, the container is too thin for sound to be kept. Lastly, I think I need a smaller diameter vinyl tube.

Overall, I think it's a good start (and experience) in building my DIY talkbox -- I returned the components back into the amplifier housing (I'll re-use it), and someday I'll start building again, with better materials and better soundproofing. :D

Biyahe All Around!

Very very tiring biyahe blues all day.

Medyo tinanghali ng alis ng bahay, dahil 'yun nga, pinapatawag ako ng dad ko sa place ng ate ko. Pagdating ko doon around 1pm, kaaalis lang pala niya -- lumakad sila ng pinsan kong si Kuya Allan sa LTO (driver's license matters pala). Tumawag sa bahay 'yung dad ko, at sinabi kong balik na lang ako mamayang gabi. So 'di na ako naka-hintay, and around 3pm lumarga na ako pa-SM Manila. (Nakasalubong ko pa accidentally ang pinsan kong si Adrian Arlegui.) Bumili lang ng kaunting parts sa may Lazer. Then dumerecho na ako sa PWU.

Meet uli kami ni [info]kr_inuki, kasama ang isang tropa niya, at nagpunta kami uli sa Elegee Guitars to claim his Ibby. Maaga kasi tinapos 'yung jumbo-refrettings~ (nung last week Sabado pa, actually.) Naipa-drill ko rin yung screwholes ni Totchi, since wala akong power drill. Anyways, lalo na tuloy na-excite mag-gitara ni [info]kr_inuki. (Side-note: That time of the day, andami na naming naha-hunt na cutie bebots, at umandar ang paparazzi mode ko, LOL...)

Afterwards, nagpasama ako sa kanila papunta sa PIMP Hive, para ipa-scalarize si Totchi. (FYI: dala-dalawang gitara ang bitbit ko -- si Syntyche ang pam-practice ko mamaya). Napakilala ko sila kay Sir Jobet; and nakapag-test pa sila ng newly-modded HM100. :p So ayun, dalawang scalarizers ang in-order at pinalagay ko: isang Metalcore (for bridge pickup only), and Hydrocore (for neck pickup) -- bagong variant... (Pwede palang naka-isolate lang sa isang pickup 'yung scalarizer.) Tapos pina-install ko na rin 'yung electronics (pots, pickup wiring diagram), plus in-adjust na rin niya 'yung truss rod, para isang bagsakan na lang. Fifteen minutes before 7pm lumarga na kami nina [info]kr_inuki, at sinamahan silang makasakay ng FX pauwi; and dumerecho na ako papuntang Gig Studio, for practice.

Yup, practice ng Rtschrck, after long long eons. Basically, sinubukan lang namin ang nagprisintang drummer from PhilMusic -- si Mhel (r3c_214). [Background info: taga-Pasig daw siya, hardcore (straight edge type) ang influs niya; been through a punk band, and he's working na.] Sumama at nakinood din sa practice namin si [info]takumii. \m/

Initially, 3 Dir en grey songs ang pina-sipra namin: Disabled Complexes (boo-hoo, 'di ko nasipra!), Red...[em], tsaka Drain Away. Since 'di siprado 'yung isang song, yung 2 songs ang na-jam namin... Sad to say, hindi nag-meet sa expectations ko 'yung skills ng drummer. (So basically we gotta find another drummer. T___T)

Magkakasabay kami umalis (except sina Jun at pamilya niya, dahil may tsikot sila), then lumarga na kami ni [info]takumii sa Purple Haze, dahil doon ko kikitain si Sir Jobet para i-claim si Totchi~ (may production gig pala sila nun.)

Afterwards, dumerecho kami sa place ng ate ko, and sandali lang kami usap ng dad ko, about financial matters. (Pina-tambay ko muna sa labas si [info]takumii, kasi andami ko ngang bitbit na gitara... x___X) Then biyahe na kami, nakauwi dito sa Shelterville around 12 midnight... Shempre, dala niya ang hard drive niya -- kopya na ako ng mahigit 10 gigs worth na AV Idol vids! (Yey!) Pero syempre nagbura ako ng ibang files, at 1 gig na lang ang free space ng isang partition. (Bye-bye, music videos! T___T)

Sinamahan ko rin siya makasakay ng trike pauwi, and 'di rin ako nakatulog agad. (Sira-ulong Asami Ogawa 'yan! She 'rocks' -- literally!)

Totchi and the Scalarizers -- short review included

'Di nakatulog, dahil sa kaka-kalikot at kaka-gamit kay Totchi. Anyways, I finished fixing some details (string alignment, pickguard screws, knobs, etc) -- take a look at this PIMPed garbage; now, it looks great!

And as I've promised kay Sir Jobet: a short review about the scalarizers... Here it is:

This review is basically what I've observed with this guitar after being scalarized. 'Di ko siya nagamit without scalarizers, plus maraming factors talaga ang nakaka-affect dito, knowing na plywood + palo china lang ang woods niya, and the upgraded parts, like the INF pickups. So far, I've only tested my newly-dual scalarized guitar through my Vantage crappy micro amp (Marshall clone).

First, I played it with clean tone; the bridge pickup (equipped w/ the Metalcore scalarizer) has that obvious mid-punch; the neck pickup (equipped w/ the Hydrocore scalarizer) has that cool clear sound, and may depth -- eto siguro yung sinasabi na parang may "chorus" effect na wet tone. What amazed me is, yung middle toggle position; slight weaker sound, pero parang tunog sitar na siya -- maybe dahil sa naghalong Hydrocore and Metalcore qualities, each naka-single coil tapped (middle nga kasi). Basta kakaiba ang tunog niya, very different sa expected na middle position sound.

Then I've tested it w/ the micro amp stock overdrive -- excellent ang driven sound ng bridge (chuncky mids); nata-twang naman ng kaunti sa neck position, but mas gusto ko siya pang-soloing; and kakaiba pa rin ang middle position -- that slight weaker output, plus parang percussive sounding.

Last, na-test ko na with my Arion SDI-1; sa bridge & neck, parang the usual sound na nakukuha ko with Cliff. (Very good knowing the fact na crappy ang kahoy ni Totchi.) Again, sa middle, parang nung previous test.

Throughout the tests, nagustuhan ko ang dynamics ng tunog, lalo na 'yung harmonics (both natural & artificial/pinch).Isa pang observation ko: for me, maganda ang overall sustain na ng gitara, in all positions. maski pag clean tone, natatagalan na ako sa sustain niya for a plywood-bodied axe. Shempre dahil micro amp lang 'to (and madaling araw ako nag-iingay dito sa bahay), expected na hindi minute-long ang sustain, so I gotta test this with a pretty good amp (maybe sa Wednesday practice w/ Himitsu Heiki -- plug ko sa Peavey 112 Bandit.)

Yup, scalarizers never failed to me -- they did it again! Maybe kasi crappy naman talaga ang quality ng mga guitars ko? Hehehe~ Basta excited na akong magamit siya sa Sabado.

Kauuwi ko lang galing band practice ng Nana Shi kanina sa Gig Studio. Grabeeee, I'm really really drained out. So lemme recap ng mga nangyari sa 'kin buong araw...

Arrived at Gig Studio around 5:30 ng hapon, at kasunod lang na dumating si [info]mike5150. Maaga na kami nagset-up, then after about 30 minues dumating along with [info]kr_inuki sina [info]takumii and [info]musicdude13 -- galing pa sila sa kanilang band practice sa bahay nila, kasama si [info]hidetoslave. Pinaka-huling nakarating si [info]neitaro -- galing pa kasi siya ng office; ayun nag-extend na rin kami ng isa pang oras, at ayun mas maigi naming na-practice 'yung mga pondo...

And whoa, dala na niya ang gitara niyang si Totchi, way from Olongapo!

Okay, features niya: plywood body, not-sure cheap wood na neck & fretboard (24 frets, medium sized ata), two humbuckers, 2 pairs of toggles and knobs (volume & tone), a floating bridge na may missing bridge saddle, and hindi ko siya mapatunog (dahil sa faulty wiring niya.)

Back to practice blues: Haay, I was kinda disappointed sa timpla ng distortion sa Zoom G2.1u ko -- minsan very matalas talaga pakinggan; sabagay digital nga naman kasi. Iba parin talaga ang tunog ng SDI-1 + DS-1 (as booster) combination. Balak ko nang mag-lug ng maraming pedals para maka-siguro. Mahirap na... T___T

After practice, kasunod pala namin ang X Versus Zero band; then maya-maya dumating naman si Ron (of Dojibiron/Free Beer), at may practice din sila ng new band niya. Then, nanlibre si [info]neitaro ng pizza sa nearby kainan/store habang tumatambay sa labas.

A few minutes after, dumating bigla si [info]yocia_euphie~ Nanggaling pa daw siya ng Ortigas, at may practice din sila ng band niya later evening. Maya-maya nauna nang umuwi sina [info]mike5150, [info]musicdude13 and [info]neitaro. So ayun, masaya ako't nagkaroon ng chance, pati time na rin makapag-kwentuhan w/ her. I hope na malaki ang maitutulong nung scalarizer keychain na naibigay ko sa kanya. ^___^v

Then tambay ng matagal kasama ang buong Himitsu Heiki gang, and they were having some talk over band matters. Had a short glance w/ a couple of high-end Ibanez axes (RG series) courtesy of Ron and his bandmate. Nakaka-drool as in. O___O; Then kasabay kong umuwi sina [info]takumii and [info]pedz.

Maraming ka-random-an

»» Finally fixed my mini-amplifier kaninang umaga, yay~ Days ago, nasira kasi 'yung DC jack niya, and some copper (tama ba) was stripped off sa maliit na PCB na pinaglalagyan nun. So I only relied on 9V batteries, which really sucks... Pinalitan lang ng panibagong DC jack, and made direct connections paralleled to the battery cap as well (para sigurado talaga), so ayun napagana ko rin! :D

Maybe next week 'yung stereo jack output naman ang papalitan ko (matagal na kasi sira yun) -- and I badly need that "panghigop ng tingga". XD

»» Oh, I remembered -- nung nag-practice kami Do'ahou nung Wednesday, we were informed na may dagdag-bayad na sa Millennium Studios sa mga drummer na gagamit ng double pedals; and 20 pesos kada oras ang singil. Grabe noh, sila lang ang may ganun -- very pointless, at marami ang tutol (lalo na si [info]the_pink_star) -- tiyak mawawalang sila ng mga suki... Kayo, 'di rin ba papayag sa ganun?

Looks like I won't be able to sleep magdamag ng madaling araw.

Simultaneously Cancelled Appointments

Kanina, na-pm ako ni [info]musicdude13 na sa ibang araw na lang kami mag-practice ng Nana Shi sa Gig Studio, dahil tomorrow mamaya may importanteng lakad siya. So ayun, set na lang daw sana ng Friday... Well, let's see...

Then later on, naka-receive naman ako ng text kay [info]fllwdwytrbbit, at nahihirapan pa daw siyang siprahin 'yung pondos namin for Rtschrck, so sa next week Sunday na lang ang practice.

Maya-maya naman, na-pm ako naman ni Jepoy -- na cancelled ulit 'yung drum tracking sched, dahil nagu-upgrade pa daw sila ng studio gears~ (mixers, preamps...) Natural na re-sched uli next Saturday 3pm next week.

Ayus, nagkasabay-sabay di ba? But hey, blessing in disguise itong mga nangyaring 'to, dahil...

  • mas may time tuloy ako makapag-review for my ESTREMA exams later.
  • 'di na sobrang hectic ang sked ko mamaya~
  • 'di na ako malalagaring bumitbit ng guitars and pedals, at 'di ako magmumukhang basurang rakista sa hayskul reunion chuva. ;p~

Which brings me to another thought...

Napansin ko lang, dapat sobrang init na ng ulo ko dahil sa sunod-sunod na cancelled band-related appoinments. Parang ang cool ko lang ngayon ah.

Hey wait -- I've been like this since a few days pa, as in... During the past days I had some bad school blues, and some minor misfortunes on the way... pero hindi uminit ang ulo ko~ (and yes, 'di ako nakagamit ng cuss words whatsoever.)

Well you know what -- I think alam ko kung bakit (and I'm starting to believe it) -- it's all in this metal scalarizer-turned-to-keychain na suot ko. Talk about superstition here, but parang positive ang effect nito sa 'kin lately; ewan ko ba. Weird ko noh? =___= Well, wala namang mawawala sa 'kin kung maniniwala ako. But hey, I'm not putting all my hopes to this tootsie roll thing. Instead, hinahayaan ko na lang kung ano ang epekto nito, and yeah I'm monitoring this. So far, I end up thinkin' optimistically, and that's so great.

Another rough day sa school, but luckily na-move ang midterms exam namin sa Sabado. Delayed kasi kami sa lecture, and naghabol kami, dahil kasama na daw 'yun sa exam~ (tapos na kasing gawin 'yung questionnaires.)

Teka, lucky nga ba 'yun, takte andami kong lakad sa Sabado!!! Patay, 'di ako dapat um-absent, and I have to finish in a few minutes para makabalik sa recording that time. Yikes...

After class, dumerecho ako sa PIMP Hive to fix one of my scalarizers -- then discovered na nahugot pala 'yung wire, so it was replaced by Elmo. Tinulungan din nya akong kabitan ng fresh set of strings si Cliff, dahil ewan ko ba, sobrang naaaliw daw siya sa gitara ko. :D Ginawa ko na'ng keychain 'yung palyadong scalarizer -- and I should do, kasi sabi ni Jepoy, it really still made wonders sa kanyang experience. Kinda "superstitious" thingie, but let's say that this tootsie-roll thing channels negative waves into positive ones. Parang ganun, hahah!

Then rushed to [info]mike5150's place, at grabe inabutan ako ng rush hour traffic on the way sa Q.Ave/Cmmonwealth. Okay lang, past 7pm dumating siya nun sa bahay, so ayun sipra-jam sa labas ng bahay nila. Later on dumating din sina [info]takumii and [info]yocia_euphie for that mini-Nana Shi practice. Hahah, it brought back that nostalgic feel, those days na nagpa-practice kami dati kila [info]musicdude13. Next week babalik uli kami doon, dahil 'yun lang talaga ang libreng time, and malabong magkasama-sama kaming lahat in one practice~ (puwera na lang kung magpa-practice kami mismo sa March 3 before gig...)

Foreword.

First and foremost: many thanks kay [info]minireia and D2R Prod for makin' FF Reunion possible. Pati sa mga volunteer marshalls na nagbigay ng peace and order (naks, parangwar against terror!) throughout the event. :P Special salamats din kila "Ellegarden" Jap, Perce aka Snorlax (for the pulutans!) at si Flame of Binoy~ (S.O.N. ka talaga bro, salamat sa booze!)

Eto pa: sensya na sa mga dearly friendly friends, especially sa mga kabanda ni "talangka" -- pati na rin sa mga nakarinig nung mga hinihirit ko~ But on the other side of the coin, I really loved every second of it! Happenings.

Sobrang late na ako nagising, and decided na 'di na pasukan ang klase ko. Instead, dumerecho na ako ng Gig Studio -- buti na lang maaga ang alis ko, dahil there was heavy traffic along. Pagdating doon, una kong nadatnan [info]kr_inuki, Louanne & [info]takumii... That moment nagpapraktis din ang Armada. Technically, tatlo lang kami nila [info]musicdude13 lang ang nag-practice sa Nana Shi (di sumipot ang vox), pero ayus lang dahil 1 hour lang naman. Pero grabe ang experience -- lumitaw ang power ng scalarizer kay Cliff... O___O Nasa "3" pa lang yung level ng ampli, todo lakas na niya; at eto pa -- kahit saan ako pumwesto, ganun pa rin siya kalakas! That scalar waves really "cuts through the mix"! Then taxi na kami papuntang Kolumn Bar; Jam-packed na rin ang event kung tutuusin.

Maayos naman ang tugtog namin, as in tamang kondisyon talaga -- light booze (courtesy ni Binoy) pa kami ni Adrian, na hinaluan ng Extra Joss. XD Then after tugtog, yun na -- tinodo na ni Binoy ang beer! Pati rin sina Perce ligo na rin sa pulutan at beer! Tapos nung lumabas ako for something (me nagpatulong kasi), nagpa-lamig sa kabilang bar, at sinerve pa 'ko ng ashtray and bentilador -- nahiya tuloy ako, at napabili ng beer din doon as well! Literally, umaalog ang tiyan ko sa dami ng beer (di ko na nga mabilang) na nainom ko. T___T

Magkakasabay kami pauwi nila [info]takumii, Marlon at [info]mike5150. I really can't imagine kung paano ako (miraculously) nakauwi. Ayun, paggising ko, sobrang uhaw na uhaw ako at masakit ang leeg. =___=!

»» Shucks, hinila ako ni Jap kagabi dun sa kurtina ng Kolumn Bar, and nakita ang katotohanan sa katabing Hunks bar. Taenang yan!

»» Nakausap and finally met [info]yocia_euphie in person since CulturEvolution. Though tipsy na 'ko, maayos naman ang resulta. Am really happy to get in touch with her again. =)

»» Also, nakausap din namin ni Luciel (yeah nanood din ng event) si [info]fllwdwytrbbit for Rtschrck's band matters. I'm excited, at hopefully makaka-practice na kami agad -- next Sunday! ^___^v

»» Madaling araw na nga akong nakatulog, maaga pa akong nagising.

Left home early tanghali, punta kila Tim at sabay-sabay kaming tatlo nina Tan papunta sa Pimp Hive, for the scheduled drums tracking. Si Jun kikitain namin na lang (sana) sa Sto. Domingo mismo, pero nauna na kami. Saktong 3pm kami nakatungtong sa place.

Pagdating mismo, paalis nun on his car si Jepoy (edgeofillusion-jepoy), and sabi niya na hinintay niya kami ng 1pm (usapan daw); so there was a miscommunication there. So ayun, inuna niya ang lakad niya, at sinabing babalik agad. For the meantime, pinuntahan ni Tan 'yung job offer sa bandang Shaw Blvd, at contract signing lang ang kailangang gawin.

So magdamag kaming tatlo (me, Jun and Tim) tumambay sa hive -- eventually, napa-scalarize pa ni Jun yung bass niyang si Bea (technically, naholdap ako ng 500 pesos for that, hahah!). Then pagbalik ni Tan, sinet-up na namin ang drum set. But still, no signs of Jepoy.

Nag-practice na lang kami magdamag 'til 9pm, at kinailangan na naming umalis, dahil may work pa ang ibang kabanda ko ng 12 midnight. Ayun, wala pa rin 'yung audio enginner (hinatid pa ang pamilya), so pina-resched na lang for next week Saturday~ ('di pwede kasi ang drummer namin ng weekdays, because training na siya sa bagong work.) Hayy, parang walang nangyari, badtrip!

Anyhow, during practice, Elmo (dominant_chord2005) gave pointers sa 'min, lalo na sa timpla ng effects ko... And he was eager to help me out -- balak niyang mag-sched ng meeting (or should I say "tutoring") sa kanya this coming Sunday, tutal taga-Commonwealth lang siya. I'm really glad (and thankful) for kind and helpful forumites tulad niya! :)

At yeah, another good thing: tuloy kami for Feb 19 gig sa Purple Haze! (Buti na lang nakulit ako ni BAMF regarding that.)

Eto, pagod na pagod pa rin, at kailangan ko pang ayusin ang gitara ko, at siprahing mabuti yung popondohin, for later afteroon practice... But kailangan kong magpahinga for the night's gig. Shit, sana bumagal ang ikot ng mundo, para 48 hours ang isang araw, noh?...

Telestrating Cliff

As I've posted, having my guitar dual-scalarized is like having two sets of pickups; it was proven nung nag-test ako paggising kanina in the morning -- sinaksak ko siya sa SUSHI-modded Arion SDI-1 ko, then sa pipitsuging micro amp.

Una, I slide the scalarizer switch sa metalcore -- and enjoyed the usual Tele® twang sound na ma-"bakal" ika nga, and well-rounded sound siya... (Noticed na mas ma-mid compared nung dati).

Then nung nilagay ko sa crystal scalarizer, doon ako nagulat; putek, nagtunog-Strat® yung twang niya! O___O Tinest ko ang both modes while playin' the Driver's High intro riff -- nandoon 'yung Strat® quack! Mas evident nung pinag-compare ko both modes while palm-muting + percussive picking. Lalo na nung nasa neck pickups -- halata talaga ang difference. Shuwet, TELESTRATOR na talaga itong axe ko, woohoo! I've never been so satisfied w/ my guitar with this.

Okay, last surgery modification na lang ni Cliff ay ang dagdagan ng 2 more bright LEDs, at ia-arrange ko na parang Big Dipper constellation effect. Hahah! XD~~
